Late September is a disappointing time for a die-hard gardener in the South. The sprinklers have been going for the last month and I dread getting my water bill. The impatients are getting leggy again --they are spent and are not responding to my attempts to revive them by watering. The hydrangeas are getting black mold because I'm watering them too much. The invasive white begonia that I've transplanted to fill in sparse spaces is threatening to die back. .It's too early to plant pansies or mums. I am considering buying a Confederate rose but I'm not crazy about planting in 95 degree heat.
There is one flower that is just starting to bloom, however, and it's making up for all the above stated disappointment. Ginger is starting to bloom and its wedding white romanctic petals give me great joy.
I miss your backyard and flowers...but most of all, I miss you :(
